Master Gardener Orchard

Sign at the Master Gardener Orchard in northwest Las VegasOur call for stories from Master Gardeners brought back memories of the many community projects our volunteers have worked on.  Here are some stories about the orchard, along with links to the original comments.  If you have more, e-mail them to Ann Edmunds.

Jim S.

We have had Orchard Crew get togethers in a few different ways. We have had annual crew appreciation luncheons at Nora's Restaurant in Summerlin. These were held for a few years from around 2008 forward and were very popular. The Orchard supplied the owner with fresh produce on a regular basis and so this was a good venue for us. The owner also gave a talk during the lunches usually regarding some special recipe and how it was prepared using some of our produce.

The Orchard also regularly has seasonal barbecues for crew members, usually in the fall after the summer heat has broken. These are pot luck affairs with everyone contributing something though usually the Orchard has some basics like spare ribs, hot dogs and hamburgers.   Read his comments in full.
